For a moment the other day, i seriously thought that i was about to be told we had a pet. I phoned home to talk to my mother about the whole Salford thing and my brother Alex started gibbering about cats. As it turns out, he had quite a fright one morning during the week. He came downstairs after mum had left for work and saw a lump on the windowsil behind the curtain, he pulled it back and was astounded to discover a cat. He rang mum at work in a panic thinking he'd stumbled across an early birthday present.
Unfortunately this wasn't the case. As it arched its back and hissed when approached, Alex was forced to go next door. They own a very playful little black kitten themselves; who, incidently, has also found her way into the house, and to the main bedroom, before. They came in and removed the wide eyed cat.
According to mum, this wasn't the first time the same cat had visited. She had been out in the back garden the previous day with the door to the kitchen open. Working on the windowsills from the outside, she looked up and met the gaze of the same cat sitting inside the kitchen.
Considering the fact that my brother has developed a small obsession with cats, and given the pet conversation i'd had the week before, i think the whole charade is a sign that we need to possess a cat, or a pet at least.
Our pet budgie Diego died on Christmas Eve in 2007. I was devastated, she was mine. Just to clarify, she originally had a blue nose which means a budgie is a male. However, when we got her she was very young and eventually it went brown, which in fact indicates a girl, i couldn't change her name though.
We used to let her out and she played with us, especially if we had food, or drinks, and especially alcohol, i got a photo of her 'bottoms up' in a glass of wine. I might talk about her again in the future, for now I will work on either kidnapping Lulu (next doors cat) or acquiring one myself...
Until next time...
